The Homestead dance team competed in Orlando, Florida between February 21 to 25 for the national dance competition. The competition had 374 registered routines and 29 out of 51 state sent teams.

The varsity jazz team placed 2nd and earned the Innovative Choreography Award in a stack division of 33 teams.

The dancers enjoyed competing in Universal Studios for four days and said their competitors’ talent was “indescribable.”

“Most people don’t realize that we only got around six hours of downtime besides the competition” Gracie Kidd (9), said.

For the short amount of time the dancers weren’t at the competition, they toured Universal Studios in groups and made long lasting memories with each other.

While the competition was an amazing opportunity for all the dancers, many of them fell ill by the end of the trip.

“I was lucky I didn’t get sick in Florida like [other dancers], but I got really sick when I got back and had to stay home from school for a day,” Natalee Mcquillan (9), said.

Many dancers faced similar problems as Mcquillan and had to miss even more school after they returned from Orlando, leaving them behind in their school work. Despite this, their teachers are very pleased with how they’re catching up.

“The was probably the most fun dance competition I’ve ever been to [and] everyone at home was probably getting annoyed with us posting on social media,” Akua Addo (9), said.

Overall, the dance team had a great time in Florida and are very proud that their hard work during practices showed in the competition.
